Who is Graham?
Graham DeHaan has known two things throughout his whole life: cello and computers. At the age of two, he was brought along to his brother’s cello lessons, soon he was trying to play the cello himself. After watching his older brother for weeks in lessons, Graham was found at the top of his living room playing his mom’s old violin like he had seen his brother do so many times. Two years later, his parents put him in lessons at the age of four. Now, almost 22, Graham has combined his love of computers and cello into one product: Modern cello-based music production.
Graham DeHaan breaks down the old molds of classical cello and recasts them into whatever he wants. From Rock and Roll to the Romantic period, Graham throws every part of his instrument into his craft. He will sing Beethoven one day and shred AC/DC the next. Using modern production techniques, he is able to utilize his instrument in ways that have not been commercially done before. His percussion, bass, and other backing tracks are all done on one cello.
From recording Julius Klengel to Greta Van Fleet, Graham has been seen doing sessions, music videos, and premiering musicals across the Nashville area. He has also played in and worked with numerous ensembles at Belmont University. Graham has played in the Belmont University Symphony for four years, during which, he has played in the nationally televised Christmas at Belmont production. He has played in the Jazz String quartet for the past two years, Classical ensembles, and he has played with Phoenix. He has also played the Beethoven Piano and Cello sonata in A major in Belmont’s honor’s recital in the spring of 2023.
Right now, Graham is wrapping up his undergrad at Belmont University and is planning on continuing his education with a master’s degree in cello performance.
